Pallas

Hey, guys! New game. Surprising, right? ;) Well this one is coming with Nerd Talk branding and is coming with a completely open philosophy. The idea is that I’m at much greater risk of not actually making anything than making something great and getting it stolen. If I make something great and get it stolen: who cares! I can make MORE great things! And I will. So don’t worry about the consequences. Just make great things the best possible way.

Anyways, this project is codenamed Pallas and who knows- that might even be its real name. I’m thinking of it right now as an incidentally massive multiplayer game. Which is to say it plays a lot like a single player game and it just randomly so happens that it is massively multiplayer. I want it to be strongly narrative and I want there to be portions of the world that are entirely controlled by the players. Almost like a sandbox that DnD can be played in. Every character has their own pocket dimension and new pocket dimensions can be created at-will fairly easily.

So far I’ve been working an an auto-updating framework so that people can install it once and always have it available. As evil as it is, I might even make it run in the background and do some downloading without ever telling the user about it at all. I want updates to work like chrome updates- chrome is always completely up to date no matter what and the user is never even aware anything is happening.

You can download the working exe from http://nerdtalkshow.com/pallas/newestexe.php right now, but there’s not a lot to see yet. I’ll get you better access to stuff as there’s stuff worth accessing.

Microphone comparisons

I did a simultaneous side by side of a dynamic microphone (Samson R31S through a Zoom H4n) a condensor microphone (Audio-Technica AT2020) and an electret microphone (Razer Carcharias via Sound Blaster X-Fi Go USB). You can listen to them and see how the microphones color the signal!

Mage RERO Retrospective

I went ahead and jumped forward on the Mage RERO project, so here’s the full dump. I think it works pretty well for creating a detailed outline, but it’s just too much work to adhere to the format once it starts getting large. This effort was not wasted though, ’cause this outline will serve me well when I return to straightforward writing.

Mage: RERO

Act I:
Long ago people could do magic, but that faded away. Modern day: a teenage girl named Jenna discovers she can do magic. An evil necromancer is trying to take over the world. While his army burns a warpath across the continent they destroy the city Lorika. In Lorika lived two teenagers (Jenna and Michael) who escape during the attack. (Unmolested. This will be a change from the existing corpus.) While fleeing the ensuing army they come across six oracles of magic. The oracles tell the heros that they can restore magic to the world but the Necromancer wants to capture them for himself. Two had already been captured, and the one in Lorika entangled itself with Jenna. The fourth oracle extracts the third oracle from Jenna, removing her powers. The third oracle becomes a character, however, and Jenna has powers again through the Oracles, just in a different way. The fourth oracle travels along with the heros, giving Michael powers.
Act II:
The Necromancer’s army marches south, conquering every city in their wake. As he advances his army changes from being a simple mortal army to also including skeleton warriors and other fiends. The heros travel across the continent, growing romantically close and gathering the Oracles before their cities fall. The Heros are assulted by the Necromancer’s fiends travelling to city 5, and the Necromancer is already attacking city 5 when they get there. Semi-showdown with the Necromancer at the chamber of the oracle, but the necromancer captures the oracle and escapes. Heros save the oracle at city 6, but the city falls and people die. Heros save the oracle at city 7 and using the help of the fae creatures fight off the army, defending the city. The Necromancer attacks 8 and 9 at the same time. The heros know it’s going to happen and debate splitting up, but choose not to. The necromancer personally attacks 9 and the heros stay back at 8. Without the Necromancer and his fiends the city is easily defended, but he captures another oracle at 9 and when he turns his attention back to 8 things are going to be bad.
Act III:
Jenna has five oracles and the Necromancer has four. (This is probably bad. I’d like the heros to be underdogs in oracle count. I could do this by moving city 7 to be 2.5, falling before lorika (and not being defended, obviously)) The heros fortify in City 8, but the necromancer lays siege. The heros defeat the Necromancer in an epic battle. Magic doesn’t return to the world, but Jenna and Michael live special lives then on. Sexy times ensue.

(I want a slow burn foreshadow bit. I want something that the reader can call from minute one that doesn’t fire until the final battle. And make no mistake, the final battle is where it should fire. Therefore, it’s probably a weakness of the Necromancer? Or a synchronisity with Michael they can use to be stronger. Okay, the synchronicity sounds good. Maybe I should do both. The book she experiments with in Chapter 1 should be like “A History of Necromancy.”, and she should wind up taking it with her? Obviously we’ve got to mine the very beginning for these things… we kinda dumped the naiscent sleeping storyline we hinted at… maybe there’s something there? I’d have to read the old chapter 1. Something about knocking Michael down?

I’ve had ideas abot Jenna or Michael encountering their family along their journey. They were orphans in Lorika, sponsored by the court. Lorika was like a crazy great place before the Necromancer knocked it over.

Something about dragon’s teeth and skeleton warriors? OOH, something about defeating the skeleton warriors stolen from Jason and the Argonauts!? :D That’d be great. Jason defeated the dragon’s teeth warriors by throwing a rock into the center of the crowd of warriors and causing them to fight among themselves. A more fanciful method is to throw a rock into their center and simply have them disintegrate. The heros could have a spell that summons a big ol’ rock over the skeleton crowd’s head?)

While travelling to city 5 the Heros are assulted by the Necromancer’s fiends. The Necromancer is already attacking city 5 when they get there.
The heros fortify in City 8, but the necromancer lays siege. The heros defeat the Necromancer in an epic battle. Magic doesn’t return to the world, but Jenna and Michael live special lives then on. Sexy times ensue.

The soldiers throw down dragon’s teeth, summoning skeleton warriors. The skeleton warriors are defeated when Jenna summons a big rock to fall in their midst. Act I:
A teenage girl named Jenna is woken up by a patrolling guard, which leads to her discovering she can do magic. Long ago people could do magic, but that faded away. The guard is heavier in Lorika because an evil necromancer is trying to take over the world and has already invaded the two cities to the north. Soon, the necromancer attacks and Lorika is destroyed. Jenna and Michael escape during the attack. They flee to the next city, and in the next city they are approached by one of the nine oracles of magic. The fourth oracle is like “This city is already lost. We should flee before the Necromancer arrives.”, so they skip ahead to city five. The Necromancer brutally slaughters town 4 and is so enraged by the absence of yet another oracle that he reanimates the entire town and incorporates them into his army as fiends. HL S 301V – Course Log – Paper

I’ve decided to do the supplied pornography topic for my writing assignment, and my paper can be viewed as it progresses here.

HL S 301V – Course Log 1 – May 26, 2011

NMSU doesn’t record their classes or make their materials available outside the individual course in any way. This is a huge sloppy waste of resources for no reason, so I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands. Here are the course materials for the first lecture of HL S 301V for the Summer 2011 semester.

Things I Can Deal With

For the sake of convenience I have prepared a comprehensive list of Things I can Deal With.

Things I Can Deal With

A List.

  1. Candy
  2. Hugs~

The list concludes. Notably absent from this list is “Problems“. This is deliberate. If you are a problem, reading this blog post, I’m afraid you aren’t welcome here. Please use the navigation controls on your browser to begone from this place! Beguile me no longer!

If, however, you are a candy, and/or a hugs… actually, let’s restrict that to just an or. I’m not sure I could handle candy that was also hugs. That would be a little weird.

If you are those things, Welcome!

Londonverse 100

“We’re being evicted? Why? We’ve paid our rent on time, haven’t we?”
“Oh yes. You have. It’s nothing like that. In fact, I haven’t had any problems with you at all. It’s just… that’s the premise of the story.”
“Oh. Well that’s a little strange, isn’t it? There’s no dramatic tension to that. It’s not hard for wealthy superheros to find lodging in London. And once we do we can even just teleport our stuff.”
“Yeah, maybe not for you miss fancy pants protagonist! I’m losing a very well paying customer, and an opportunity to be present in future stories!”
“Yeah… sorry ’bout that. Look on the bright side, though. If not for the author’s need to practice and willingness to write anything that popped into their head you would never have been written at all!”
“Yeah, I suppose you’re right. Well, good luck in your new place.”
“Thanks.”

Aquaria Review

I did a quick review of Aquaria. If I can figure the tools out, I hope to animate it Zero Punctuation/Blamamation/Extra Credits style and post it to Nerd Talk.
